We took a day trip from Hanoi to the Perfume River and the Perfume Pagoda.  Tens of thousands of Buddhist pilgrims come here in the late winter for an annual festival in this holy place for many Vietnamese.  The best way to reach the temples is a river ride into this valley to reach the foot of the trail.  We had about 2 hours on the river that day.   It was hot and steamy, quiet, and picturesque.  Very memorable.

One of our favorite pictures...

These kids were fishing and swimming.

Many Vietnamese men wear these hats while more women wear the traditional cone hats.

We like this one too.

Families live in huts right on the river.

We assume this power line connected to the pagoda area downstream - not to these houses.

One example of the many river shrines along the way.

There are lots of graves on the river and in the rice patties of this and other nearby valleys.

All of this stuff was being brought down to the trailhead where some building was going on.
