We had a long weekend in May, so we went camping on the west coast of Korea. We stayed in
a grove of pine trees next to the ocean in a national park near Anmeondo. What a refreshing change from Seoul!
The area is known for how the tide goes out unusually far. It attracts people who want to dig for clams in the huge
expanse of soft, wet sand that's left exposed for much of the day. We ate well, hiked, got massages, and just watched
all the "clamming".

FRESH seafood stew - eyes, claws, tentacles and all. |

We had a great view of the ocean from our tent. |

|
Crowds of people came to gather clams. |

We think she worked for one of the many seaside restaurants. Backbreaking work!! |

|
We borrowed this tent from a friend. It was good to camp again - it's been almost 2 years! |

|
Mmmm...the smell of pine and ocean...so much fresher than Seoul smog! |

It was fun to check out the ocean floor while we could between tides. |

Sea meets sky... |

Lone tree, lone man... |

Many families gathered enough for dinner each night - cooking them up near the beach. |

We chatted with this girl on the bus - she's from Anmeondo, but goes to university in Seoul. |
